Аннотация: Load and flow rate characteristics are theoretically examined on two kinds of axial pressurised gas bearings with an orifice-type gas flow controller in the form of a nozzle or flap. The conditions for zero and negative compliance of the load carrying layer for each kind of bearing are given. It is shown that, in a bearing with a developed plane nozzle in the flow controller, the condition of negative compliance prevails in a wider range of loads. A bearing with a sharp nozzle in the flow controller makes it possible to obtain a small value of positive compliance in a wider range of loads. However, for the same compliance, such a bearing has a substantially higher gas flow. (A)
