Аннотация: Cellulose is one of the most common polysaccharides. The chemical modification of cellulose with sulfate groups opens up new facets of its use as an anticoagulant and hypolipedemic substance. The biological activity of sulfated polysaccharides also depends on the method of preparation and their structure. In this paper, we propose a new method of sulphation of cellulose - sulfamic acid in the presence of an oxidized graphite-like catalyst. The obtaining cellulose sulfates were characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and gel permeation chromatography. Embedding of the sulfate group is proven by FTIR, the appearance of absorption bands in cellulose sulfate at 1249 cm−1 and 808 cm−1, which correspond to the vibrations of the sulfate group. According to gel permeation chromatography data, the molecular weight distribution profile of the MCC sulfate sample consists of two main narrow peaks located in the molecular weight region up to ~ 5000 g/mol, and a broader peak in the high molecular weight region.
