Аннотация: Традиционно считается, что Россия вообще и в особенности ее Азиатская часть являются мировой кладовой природных ресурсов. Это утверждение безусловно справедливо, если речь идет о ресурсах недр, иная ситуация складывается с лесными ресурсами. С точки зрения валовых характеристик Азиатская Россия действительно является фактическим мировым лидером по площади лесов и их запасам, однако, если оценивать их экономический потенциал в рамках сложившейся экстенсивной модели лесопользования, можно сделать парадоксальный вывод о наличии ряда факторов, приводящих к дефицитности лесов: от широко известных лесных пожаров и куда менее обсуждаемой проблемы вспышек размножения насекомых-дендрофагов до исчерпания транспортно- доступных арендных площадей. В статье дается характеристика состояния лесных ресурсов Азиатской России, а также основных естественных и антропогенных факторов, влияющих на их динамику. В отличие от других работ, рассматривающих лесной комплекс исключительно как отрасль промышленности, наш анализ исходит из расширенного понимания функций лесов как поставщика важных экосистемных услуг. С учетом важности существенного наращивания качества и эффективности использования лесных ресурсов сформулированы цели крупного пилотного проекта в области лесопользования как одного из компонентов нового импульса социально-экономического развития Азиатской России. Traditionally, Russia in general and especially its Asian part are considered to be the world’s treasure trove of natural resources. This statement is certainly true when it comes to subsoil resources, but the situation with forest resources is different. From the point of view of gross characteristics, the Asian Russia is the actual world leader in terms of forest area and reserves, but if we assess their economic potential within the framework of the current extensive model of forest use, a paradoxical conclusion can be made that there are a number of factors leading to forest scarcity: from the well-known forest fires and the much less discussed problem of outbreaks of pest insects to exhaustion of transport-accessible leased areas. The article characterizes the state of forest resources of Asian Russia, as well as the main natural and anthropogenic factors affecting their dynamics. In contrast to other works, which consider the forest complex solely as a branch of industry, our analysis is based on an expanded understanding of the functions of forests as a provider of important ecosystem services. Considering the importance of significantly increasing the quality and efficiency of forest resources, we formulate the goals of a major pilot project in the field of forest management as one of the components of a new impetus for the socio-economic development of Asian Russia.
