Аннотация: There has always been a problem in understanding the nature of art works through art criticism. Many theoretical schools have appeared which consider a work of art either as an artifact with certain characteristics (size, paint composition, age) - this approach is used by history and archeology - or as a stimulus to the expression of a spectator's emotional or intellectual traits. Such approaches suggest a condition of separation, a "barrier" between a work of art and its spectator; the communicative process or the powerful domination of one side excludes the comprehension of an artwork as a process and a result of both sides of the relationship. The authors suggest a special approach to considering the nature of artwork on the basis of an equal relationship of between a work of art (= artistic image) and its spectator. Research into the model of an artwork and the spectator's meeting/relationship with it allows new aspects of an artistic image ("Artificiality", "Finesse", "Iskus" (temptation), material status, index status, iconic status, symbolic status, compositional formula) to be revealed.
