Аннотация: The tendency that has emerged in the modern Russian penitentiary system to transform educational colonies into educational centers aimed at creating new values for the convicted, introducing them into the system of social relations, actualizes the pedagogical significance of the historical experience of correcting and re-educating minors in conflict with the law. The authors have considered the option of organizing penitentiary pedagogy in the Irkutsk correctional-educational shelter for minors of the late 19th - early 20th centuries, which was the first, by the time of opening, institution of this type in the vast territory of Siberia. The history of a separate institution deserves attention due to the fact that, despite the uniformity of the tasks to be solved, correctional-educational institutions differed in approaches, methods and results of pedagogical influence. The key research method is a dialectic one, which allows considering the pedagogical process as developing, contradictory, regulating certain aspects of the juvenile system. The implementation of innovative pedagogical and legal approaches to correctional education is highlighted in the context of the social perception of juvenile offenders in general, presented as care and control, compared with the works of other authors. In a systematic way, new historical documents and facts of a regional level have been introduced into the scientific circulation, which reveal the complex of pedagogical interactions in the practice of correctional-educational institutions of the late 19th - early 20th centuries, form value-oriented approaches to assessing its experience. The presented positive historical experience of pedagogical influence on the personality of a minor can help in finding effective technologies for the rehabilitation of children and adolescents in specialized closed institutions. © 2019 LLC Ecological Help.
