Аннотация: Relevance. The development of drilling rock cutting tools is always aimed at improving the efficiency and resource of its work and to expand the scope. An important component of this process is the study of the mechanism of rock destruction by the working part of the tool being developed. The most difficult, but important is the study of the depth of rock cutting-chipping with a cutter. Despite the small dimensions of the system under consideration, for a more reliable result, it is necessary to take into account all the factors affecting rock destruction by a cutter. If we talk about the most significant factors that affect the efficiency of rock destruction, it is necessary to note the resistance forces that occur at the bottom of the well. The smallest cutter has a diamond rock cutting tool. The diamond type of drilling tool is quite in demand in production. In this regard, it is urgent to develop the theory and possibilities of studying the mechanism of rock destruction by a diamond cutter, taking into account the processes and phenomena occurring at the bottom, including those that impede its introduction into the rock. The aim of the research is to identify the possible sources of resistance forces to the introduction of a diamond cutter into the rock, to determine the degree of influence of resistance forces and other factors on the value of the depth of rock cutting-chipping with a diamond cutter. Objects: Rock destruction mechanism with a single diamond cutter. Methods: Experiment, analytical studies, analysis, computer simulation method. Results. A software product was developed that allows a detailed study of the mechanism of rock destruction by a single diamond tool. It is determined that the resistance from the side of the medium that arose at the bottom of the well affects the resulting value of the depth of cutting-chipping of the rock with a diamond cutter. The value of the resulting resistance force to the cutter depends on the type of flushing fluid and the type of rock being destroyed. It was found that as the linear velocity of the cutter increases, an increase in rock resistance and a decrease in the depth of penetration of the cutter into the rock are observed. © 2020 Tomsk Polytechnic University, Publishing House.
