Electrochemical behavior of 6xxx series aluminium alloys in electrolytes containing chloride ions

Аннотация: The paper is devoted to the study of the behavior of aluminium alloy 6063 in solutions containing chloride ions. The corrosion rate was calculated by means of a gravimetric method, the dependence of the corrosion resistance on the concentration of electrolytes and the holding time was determined. The effect of corrosion on the ultimate strength of the alloy has been shown. The type of corrosion has been identified; the explanation has been given for the transition from pitting to intergranular corrosion due to the presence of intermetallics of iron and silicon Al3Fe and Mg2Si, which results in weakening strength. Recommendations for reducing corrosiveness have been given. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
