Аннотация: In recent decades, many countries reviewed the use of urban public space and created pro- grams for it development in the inner cities and areas close to the city center and at the periphery. In this connection it is interesting to consider the experience changes the open public spaces of the central part of Karlsruhe (Germany). The «City of 2015» dedicated to the 300th anniversary was de- veloped under the concept of the master plan of Karlsruhe. Its main task is the development of the pre- ferential areas for retail, commercial, leisure and housing. The aim of the project are strengthening the trade functions of the city through the reconstruction and expansion of the central pedestrian area, namely, exemption from the Kaiserstra?e tram rails; adaptation of public spaces to the current re- quirements imposed on their use and improve the environment of the city. Particular attention is paid to public spaces, as it is here reflected vibration of urban life. These areas need to get a new face with modern design elements, and thus lay the trend of open spaces in the connected integrated system. The project carried out to establish the attractiveness of the city with a well-functioning public transport and accessible and competitive in pedestrian zones. Experience in the modernization of public urban spaces in Karlsruhe shows that a modern city should include a multi-functional open public spaces of high environmental architectural characteristics; it should be accessible to all citizens and be subject to the identification of the city. The development of public spaces is only possible at a constant dialogue between all users and the enhancement of cooperation between the state and the private sector.??
