Аннотация: At present, for many areas of higher education, the problem of improving students' performance is acute. The solution to this problem is considered from the perspective of organizational measures and cybernetic methods, and the personal learning environment is regarded as a tool. The study aims to reveal the possibility and feasibility of using this environment as a tool to improve students' performance. For this purpose, the relationship between students' use of a personal learning environment and their academic performance in the educational process was determined by the methods of clustering and mathematical statistics. Students who use the tools of the personal learning environment have a higher average grade, are more successful in interim attestations, less frequently retake examinations or are expelled due to academic failures. The study resulted in identifying four clusters of students with pronounced characteristics, representing independent groups of students, to which a certain organizational impact can be applied to improve academic performance. The possibility of flexible use of tools of the personal learning environment (ratings, achievements, signs, and active notifications) to influence students from different clusters is shown. From the perspective of the educational process, these tools are auxiliary because they are not used directly for training, but make it possible to discipline students, to increase self-organization and interest in the learning process.
