Evaluation of micrometeoroid substance effect on artificial space objects

Аннотация: The most important features of the attack of one of the hazardous space factors, a micrometeoroid substance, on artificial space objects are evaluated. It is shown that the danger of through piercing of spacecraft body at collision with a micrometeoroid is absent under natural operation conditions. However, the possibility of initiating electrical breakdown of high-voltage equipment in the open space is of principal significance, and the rate of spacecraft collision with micrometeoroids is estimated under these conditions. The estimate of erosion of thermo-regulating coating (TRC) materials does not exceed 4.5% for 10 years of spacecraft lifetime and allows one to conclude that all applied TRCs retain their operational performances under the micrometeoroid effect and possess high resistance under natural operation conditions. It should be noted here that the coatings of solar batteries and high-sensitivity optical devices are liable to the greatest danger.
