Аннотация: The article is devoted to the consideration of the features of lexical gaps translation in sports vocabulary. The authors note that the process of filling (eliminating) gaps can take place in two ways: filling (translation using an analogue) and compensation (transcription, transliteration, tracing). It is concluded that there is a significant stylistic potential for the use of sports vocabulary in texts, sports commentaries, and it is also noted that the result of the assimilation of borrowed vocabulary is the acquisition of its additional connotative meanings. The article substantiates the need for further study of sports terms translation in preparation for the Olympiads, Universiades and other international competitions and notes that transliteration / translational transcription is a fairly convenient way to fill in lexical gaps.
