Аннотация: The problem of students’ mastering the skills of professional foreign language communication is particularly relevant for non-linguistic universities, in which foreign language is an applied tool for achieving practical goals in various fields of professional activity of future graduates. In this context, the expediency of using the case study method in foreign language learning is justified by a number of communicative advantages: a combination of theoretical and practical aspects of the problem being solved, the development of students’ skills to work with different sources of information, the acquisition of business skills of professional foreign language communication. The effectiveness of case study is confirmed by the analysis of pedagogical observations on the formation and development of students’ own foreign language communication skills, the ability to exist in a dialogue foreign language environment, focus on constructive solutions of the professional orientation; presentation of the results of case studies in the form of student reports and presentations. Based on various requirements, characteristics and classifications of cases, the authors focus on the development of training cases, analyze the main stages of their development, design and presentation of results. The authors present the example of the developed case for students of the Institute of ecology and geography of SibFU.
