Аннотация: The paper investigates the evolution of the political activity and the political culture of the guild merchants of Yenisei province in the second half XIX - early XX centuries. On the basis of archival materials considered the chronology of the process, motives, forms and specifics of business involvement in regional political organizations, conducted a comparison of the phenomena studied in the Yenisei province to other regions of the Russian Empire, identified factors that determined the transformation of the political views of the merchants over the post-reform period. On the basis of the participation of the guild merchants in the political life of the Yenisei province, the authors came to the conclusion that at the beginning of the test period, the political culture of the Yenisei merchants had mostly traditional, passively subservient character. Since the end of the XIX century. as a result of the emerging civil revitalization of the merchant community, its political culture began to take on characteristics of modernization, such as: awareness of class and regional interests expressed through claims of representation in the government.
